It was love at first sight. As soon as I stumbled upon the shell chandelier I was drawn to the delicate simplicity of its white, draped, tiny cowrie shells strung by hand in so many beautiful formations.
They whisper bohemian glamour and gypsy wanderlust.
They bring a gentle texture of white on white with a soft sway in the breeze.
They say 'beach' without being too 'beachy' and are as comfortable in an industrial interior as they are in a beach shack, as beautiful hanging from the branches of a tree & deck as they are adorning the inside home (dining room, lounge, above a bath tub, at your bedside....)
Add wiring (always best with a dimmer) and voila - a light show of lacy shadows to adorn your room.

Inside or outside?Beautiful inside and outside. They will obviously last a lot longer placed inside but who can resist creating that holiday feel by hanging them along the verandah or deck, from the trees, over a day bed? It is surprising how well they weather - be prepared to pick them up and rehang after wild weather. They fade beautifully too in the sunshine. Use chain or strong fishing line to hang from a ceiling hook or nail.
Find the perfect space...
Create an instant wow factor by hanging your shell chandelier over the dining table, above the coffee table, above a claw foot bath, as bedside lights. Also gorgeous to liven up a long stretch of wall or a corner. Think spiral extra large or three tier large / extra-large.
To wire or not to wire?
Call in your local electrician to wire your cowrie shell chandelier over prominate functional areas such as the dining table, kitchen bench, bedsides. And go that extra mile for a dimmer - you won't regret it! Consider a big round clear low wattage globe. Use white electrical cord and a white ceiling hook, chrome or white chain.
Go it alone or bunch them together...
The bigger the pendant the more it will favour being the star of the show. For smaller pendants - try mixing it up with three or five different styles and heights, bunched together.
How high should the pendant hang above the dining table?
As much as you will love these pendants, you will probably still want to make eye contact with the person sitting opposite to you - so hang so it sits approximately 55cm from the table top.
